The X-ray analysis of the title compound, [C₁₆H₃₆N]₂[Ni(C₃S_4.67Se_0.33)₂], reveals that the anion contains 4,5-dimercapto-1,3-dithiole-2-thionato and 4,5-dimercapto-1,3-dithiole2-selonato ligands in the ratio 2:1. The anion as a whole is planar and the central Ni atom has a square-planar coordination environment. The disorder in the tetrabutylammonium cation has been modelled to give acceptable geometric parameters.
