This X-ray diffraction study establishes the molecular structure of the title compound, 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10-octahydro-7,14,16-trihydroxy-3-methyl-1H-2- benzoxacyclotetradecen-1-one sesquihydrate, C18H24O5.1.5H2O. There are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. The molecule consists of a 14-membered lactone ring fused ortho to a 1,3-dihydroxybenzene moiety. The crystal structure is stabilized by O—H...O hydrogen bonds. There are three water molecules filling the unit cell and forming a three-dimensional network of hydrogen bonds.
