Addition of H2O2 to an aqueous solution of 1,3-thiazolidine-2-thione and CuCl2.2H2O yielded the title compound. The asymmetric unit consists of one chloride ion and one 2-(2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-3-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3-thiazolium cation, C6H9N2S3+. The molecular cation consists of 1,3-thiazolidine-2-thione and 4,5-dihydro-1,3-thiazolium moieties in a cisoid-S,S configuration, linked by attachment of the thioamido-C atom of the thiazolium group to the thiamido-N atom of the thiazolidine ring. A combination of ionic and hydrogen-bonded interactions link the molecular cations and the chloride ions in the unit cell.
