In January next year, to coincide with the inauguration of the International Year of Crystallography (IYCr2014), the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) will launch the first issue of IUCrJ, a brand new online peer-reviewed journal offering full open access (www.iucrj.org).

IUCrJ is focused on becoming the primary target for publication of influential research papers that are of the widest interest and relevance to the diverse structural sciences community. The mission of IUCrJ is to attract high-profile articles on all aspects of the sciences, technologies and methods supported by the IUCr via its commissions, recognizing that major scientific advances require multidisciplinary research and that key breakthrough papers will often report results covering a wide range of methods and technologies.

We are currently inviting the submission of high-quality original articles to IUCrJ on crystallographic and structural studies, and on research where crystallographic methods have contributed data integral to broader research programmes. Priority for publication will be given to outstanding work that is of broad appeal to a wide readership.
