Figure 11
2|Fo| − |Fc| neutron Fourier maps of water molecules of hydration for a rubredoxin mutant and and a myoglobin. Examples shown are peaks having: (a) a triangular shape, (b) a short ellipsoidal shape, (c) a long ellipsoidal shape and (d) a spherical shape. In these figures, the central peak (inner contours) embedded in the middle of each water contour corresponds to the O-atom position derived from X-ray data. Note that, from the outer contours, in (a) all atoms of the central D2O molecule are visible, whereas in the other diagrams only some of the solvent atoms are visible in the neutron maps: O and D atoms in (b), two D atoms in (c), and only O atoms in (d).
