A `photo-difference' map showing the ground state (already modelled) depicted by the black lines together with the electron density associated with the light-induced [Ru(SO2)(NH2)4Cl]Cl complex (Kovalevsky et al., 2002BB45, 2003BB44). In this example, SO2 is the photo-active ligand, undergoing an η1-SO2 (end-on) to η2-SO2 (side-bound) photoisomerization. The S atom and one O atom of the η2-SO2 bound ligand are evident in this Fourier-difference map as the green feature and more diffuse green area, respectively, on the left of the figure (the other O atom is not visible here as it lies outside the plane).
