Experimentally measured charge-density difference map for the copper–oxide bond in cuprite. Obtained by quantitative comparison of elastic energy-filtered CBED patterns with multiple scattering simulations. The density is calibrated in electron units per unit volume, and so from spherical harmonic fitting gives separate contributions of ionic and covalent bond charge.
