Relationship between crystal radius (R) and characteristic speed [interface attachment speed [\beta _s] and diffusive speed [\beta_{\rm diff}], equation (12[link])]. The interface attachment speed is less than the diffusive speed when the crystal radius is approximately smaller than 0.1 cm (which coincides with the physical sample size). Since crystal sizes observed in our XRT experiment never reach such large dimensions, the growth of the d-QC and X phase is dominated by the kinetics of interface attachment. We assume that the surface roughness does not change as the crystal grows, and thus the interface attachment speed is a constant value independent of the crystal radius.
