The recursive SM,|ρ|-FFT phasing algorithm: (upper-right corner) initial (or updated) φ phase estimates are combined with experimental |E|'s to obtain ρ, |ρ| and mρ (the latter is stored). Next, the Fourier transform of |ρ| is calculated to obtain the new |C| and α values, and the former are used in the calculation of CCM; (lower-left corner) the new α values are combined with the experimental (|E|−〈|E|〉) and Fourier transformed to obtain the δM function which is multiplied with the stored mρ mask in the next step. The Fourier transform of this product function supplies the updated φ phases.
