The reference frame (x, y) is defined by the initial monolayer structure of lattice L0 (black). The first layer L1 (blue) is a copy of L0 rotated by [-\delta] around the origin, [L_{1} = \exp(-i\delta)\Lambda]. The second layer L2 (red) is a copy of L0 displaced by a rigid-body translation [\tau = \tau_{x}+\tau_{y}\rho \exp(i\varphi)] and then rotated by [+\delta], leading to [L_{2} = \exp(i\delta)(\Lambda+\tau)].
