Packing diagram of (5). Note the chains running along the a axis formed by triple hydrogen bonds, perchlorates and water molecules pack between the cation strings. The inter-cation hydrogen bonds are: N1⋯O2* [d(D⋯A) 2.928 (4) Å, ∠(DHA) 131°], N4⋯O2* [d(D⋯A) 2.916 (4) Å, ∠(DHA) 145°] and N5⋯O2* [d(D⋯A) 2.825 (4) Å, ∠(DHA) 145°]. O2* is related to O2 by the symmetry operation $[x+{1\over 2}, -y+{3\over 2}, -z]$ .
