The Ge at. % is related to α through the coupling of the Ge occupancy to α discussed in the beginning of §5[link]. The relation being Ge at. % = [(2-\alpha )/(2-\alpha +1)]. As the synthesis mixtures for the presented phases aimed at, and were evenly distributed in, the range 60–67 at. %, the distribution of observed phases shows that only certain values of n are allowed.
