Using main and satellite reflections equivalently results in a large unit cell (light grey) with a′ = 8·a or, in reciprocal space, a′* = 1/8·a*. Note that unless satellite reflections up to higher orders are observed, numerous reciprocal lattice points are empty (b). This holds especially if the satellite reflections are not along one reciprocal axis but are located in a plane (e.g. the a*c* plane, cf. §3[link]).
