Scanning along the out-of-plane N—O bending normal coordinate of MTN allows definition of the flexibility of the nitroxide group. The two structures displaced along a normal mode with energy crossing the ZPVE (displacements of −0.22 and 0.21) are superposed and marked by red dots on a plot.
