The octahedral coordination of Mg2+. In the active site of DXR, Mg2+ (green sphere) is octahedrally coordinated by Asp149, Glu151, Glu230, a water molecule (red sphere) and fosmidomycin. An Fo − Fc OMIT map of fosmidomycin, Mg2+ and a water molecule is also shown at a contour level of 1.0σ. The map was calculated by excluding fosmidomycin, Mg2+ and the water molecule from the model using CNS. The chemical structure of fosmidomycin is shown on the right.
