Signal improvement due to the beamline upgrade. (a) Improvement of the scattering pattern of BSA (bovine serum albumin) in buffer solution. The enhancement of data statistics, reduction in exposure time and extension in s-range after the upgrade of the monochromator, slit system, mirror and detector of the new setup (upper line) and the old setup (lower line) are clearly stated (data not scaled for intensity or protein concentration). (b) Comparison of sample and background raw data for the vacuum setup and air gap setup. Further improvement of the background noise and the signal to background ratio (Iprotein: Ibuffer small inset) is achieved by introducing the vacuum cell setup.
