A FEM model documents a relaxation of [\sigma _{{22}}(z)] residual stresses (in GPa) in the blasted coating at the lamella cross section due to sample cutting (a). In (b) solid and dashed lines document the [\sigma _{{22}}(z)] stress magnitude along the x axis at different coating depths for the uncut sample and relaxed lamellae, respectively. One can observe that at the interface the relaxation is minimal, while at the surface the relaxation at the lamellae borders is very pronounced.
