The effect of an n glide perpendicular to the [1[\overline 1]0] direction. Atoms on the opposite side of the glide plane (differentiated by the + and − signs, indicating the different heights along the [1[\overline 1]0] direction, as well as by the opposite handedness) are separated by a vector (a + b + c)/2 in projection on the (hhl) plane. When observed in projection, the height is lost and an apparent half-periodicity along the diagonal of the plane is observed. The same figure applies also to a d glide by simply replacing the factor 2 by 4.
