A plot showing the measured SANS scattering from filter-grade graphite as a function of temperature. The upturn for q < 0.04 Å−1, which is insensitive to temperature, is likely to originate from SANS from large defects such as voids. The scattering peak at q = 0.13 Å−1, which increases with temperature, is probably from a phonon mode. The rather flat scattering over the range 0.05 < q < 0.09 Å−1 is attributed to single-phonon scattering from transverse modes. The data shown in Fig. 14 for graphite are obtained by taking the average value over the q range 0.05 < q < 0.09 Å−1. |
