Plots of the total continuous diffraction signal strength, [{\overline \Sigma}_{\rm T}], (a) as a function of the total background strength [{\overline \mu}_{\rm T}] and (b) as a function of the total Bragg counts. The continuous diffraction signal is correlated with Bragg counts but not with the background. The continuous diffraction signal of the strongest patterns is about 5–10% of the background and more than four times the strength of the Bragg signal. The red points indicate the pattern shown in Fig. 4[link](a).
