Graphical procedure to obtain the direction of the extraordinary ray in a uniaxial medium. A half-ellipsoid (a) can be used to draw on a sheet of paper (b) the ellipse, where the vibration direction can be used to calculate the direction of the ray (i.e. the conjugate direction). A blue arrow (c) has been stuck on the section of the model and small stickers indicate the vibration direction of this extraordinary ray.
