Macrocrystal growth. (a) Crystal growth is initiated by evaporation in different sized and shaped containers to alter the evaporation rates. If small-sized crystals formed, they can be used as seeds to grow a large single crystal. Macrocrystals of (b) copper(II) sulfate and (c) urea, obtained by evaporation of their saturated solutions. (d) Urea macrocrystal formed in the presence of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3).
