Crystal structures for Tl2LiYCl6: (a) tetragonal (distorted elpasolite) at 296 K and (b) cubic at 537 K. This elpasolite is composed of alternating YCl6 (darker) and LiCl6 (lighter) octahedra with interspersed Tl atoms. For the room-temperature structure, note the tilting and distortion of the octahedral units. Anti-phase tilting around the c axis is observed in the tetragonal structure.
