A schematic of the experimental setup for the characterization of NP beams. The aerosol passed a skimmer assembly to remove most of the carrier gas, and the particles were focused using an ALS and entered the main vacuum chamber, where the particle beam was crossed by a laser beam. The light scattered off the particles was collected using a camera-based microscope system (Awel et al., 2016  ; Worbs et al., 2019). |
