A simple example of an inhomogeneous in-plane density distribution that is made up of only two distinct types of homogeneous region or domain, each type having one of two different values of average in-plane SLD, either ρA1 or ρA2, as discussed in the main body of text. Incident neutron wavefronts of two different transverse sizes projected onto the material surface are shown.
