The symmetric diffraction geometry for a thin film of thickness t = Nd, where d is the atomic plane spacing perpendicular to the film surface. The incident, diffracted and transmitted beam vectors kin, kdiff and ktr are coplanar. The diffraction vector q bisects the incident and transmitted beam vectors.
