The first derivatives of Fig. 7[link] plotted as a function of θ/θ{hkl}. Division by θ{hkl} proves that, effectively, the difference between θmax and θ{hkl} becomes smaller, i.e. with higher-indexed {hkl} the match between the extreme positions of the first derivatives and the true Bragg angle improves.
