The difference in the atomic number ΔZ between the two elements in a binary compound as a function of the mean atomic number [{\overline Z}]. As in Fig. 8[link], black symbols indicate phases where the extrema of the first derivative yield the correct lattice type. Blue symbols represent phases where further interference orders were evident, leading to the correct lattice type. Red symbols illustrate phases where no indication of the correct superlattice existed. The red and blue lines are proposed to separate correct from pseudosymmetric solutions.
