(Left) The 3λ correction procedure reduces the contribution of multiples of three to the rare events, as indicated by the orange bar in the middle of panel (a) compared with panel (c). The contribution from multiples of two, however, is insignificant in (a) and remains insignificant for the corrected and filtered data sets, as indicated by the left-hand orange bar in panels (a), (c) and (e). In data set 2 (right-hand column) the 3λ correction procedure also reduces the contribution of multiples of three to the rare events, but the initially insignificant contribution of multiples of two increases to a level where it may just become significant. This is also the case in the filtered data set. |
