(Left) The 3λ correction procedure reduces the number and strength of rare events ζ > 3, as indicated by the number and strength of outliers in the right periphery of panel (a) compared with (c). They are, however, not eliminated and are also visible in the filtered data set shown in panel (e). Changes in the left-hand periphery are much smaller. The observations are similar in data set 2 (right-hand column).
