Three possible octahedral shear/anti-shear distortions, with the associated value of the shear fraction η as defined in equation (22[link]). In the case where η = 0, the only distortion is anti-shear within a single plane. In the case where η = 0.5, there are two planes in which there is distortion, a shear and an anti-shear distortion equal in magnitude. In the case where η = 1, there is a plane with a purely shear distortion.
