Diffraction elastic constant [{1\over 2}S_{2}^{hkl}] for ferritic steel, calculated for the grain-interaction models of Reuss (R), Voigt (V) and Eshelby–Kröner (K), and plotted versus the orientation factor [3\Gamma = 3(h^{2}k^{2}+ k^{2}l^{2}+l^{2}h^{2})/] (h2+k2+l2)2. The framed reflections hkl lie in the vicinity of the model-independent orientation [\Gamma^{\ast} = \left(s_{11}-s_{12}\right)/\left(3s_{0}+{5\over 2}s_{44}\right)] with [s_{0} = s_{11}-] [s_{12}-{1\over 2}s_{44}].
