Fo (bound) − Fo (resting) difference electron-density maps obtained by mixing 3–5 µm HEWL crystals with 226 mM GlcNAc at mixing times of (a) 2.0 s, (b) 5.0 s and (c) 9.7 s. The maps are contoured at 5.00σ. The HEWL structure in the absence of GlcNAc is shown with blue carbon atoms, while the GlcNAc-bound HEWL structure is shown with yellow carbon atoms. The positive and negative electron-density peaks are depicted in slate blue and orange, respectively.
