A three-dimensional plot of the sin2(πl) = 8/9{1 −cos(πh)cos(πk)cos[π(h+k)]} (h, k, l continuous) curved diffuse intensity characteristic of the P63/mmc ideal tridymite parent structure. The hh0 axis corresponds to the ha*+hb* axis, the [{\overline h}h0] axis to the [{\overline h} {\bf a}^* + h {\bf b}^*] axis and the l axis to the lc* axis. Rotation of the front face of the plot by 90° around the [{\overline h}h0] axis enables a direct comparison with Fig. 1[link](b) above.
