Overview of the fast and accurate defocus (FADE) microscope system. The FADE control unit receives synchronization signals from the direct electron detector and applies a pre-programmed defocus modulation pattern to the modulator. Defocus modulation recipes are uploaded to the FADE unit from the data acquisition control computer.
