Bond type in the dioxides of titanium, germanium and tin

The crystal energies of TiO₂, GeO₂ and SnO₂ have been calculated by both the Born-Haber cycle and Born-Mayer equations. The agreement between the results suggests strongly ionic character in the M-O bonds.
