Small angle X-ray diffraction study of metastable precipitates in an Al-5 at.% Ag-5 at.% Zn alloy

The effect of varying ageing times and temperature on the halo (from GP zones) and the streaks (from the precipitation of a new phase) in small-angle X-ray patterns for an Al-5 at. % Ag-5 at. % Zn alloy has been studied. From the short incubation period before the appearance of the streaks it has been deduced that metastable precipitates form more rapidly in on Al-Ag-Zn alloy than in an Al-Ag alloy with equal Ag content.
