A possible error in a measurement of critical voltage in a high voltage electron microscope

The critical voltage of a crystalline material is normally obtained experimentally by assuming that it is equal to the voltage at which, for a row of systematic reflexions, the second order passes through a minimum. It is shown that this assumption can incur an error of approximately 30 keV.
