NaYP₂O₇

Sodium yttrium diphosphate crystallizes in the noncentrosymmetric space group P2₁. The structure consists of corner-sharing YO₆ octahedra and P₂O₇ groups forming an alternate stacking of octahedral layers and phosphate layers. The framework delimits intersecting tunnels where the Na⁺ cations are located. The P₂O₇ groups show a nearly staggered configuration inter­mediate between that in KYP₂O₇ [Hamady, Zid & Jouini (1994), J. Solid State Chem. 113, 120–124] and that in α-NaTiP₂O₇ [Leclaire, Benmoussa, Borel, Grandin & Raveau (1988), J. Solid State Chem. 77, 299–305].
