The structure of caesium terbium(IV) pentafluoride has been determined by single-crystal X-ray methods. CsTbF5 has a layered structure. The layers, which stack along the [100] direction, are built from edge- and corner-sharing (TbF8)4- dodecahedra and are held together by 11-coordinated Cs+ ions. CsTbF5 is closely related to TlZrF5.
