(1,1'-Dimethyl-2,2'-biimidazole-N³,N^3')diiodoplatinum(II)

The title compound, [PtI₂(C₈H₁₀N₄)], exhibits square-planar cis coordination of the Pt atom to the two I atoms [mean Pt—I distance 2.587 (6) Å] and the two unmethylated imidazole N atoms [mean Pt—N distance 2.020 (6) Å]. Successively antiparallel near-planar [PtI₂(C₈H₁₀N₄)] units form zigzag chains along the b axis with Pt...Pt distances longer than the interplanar spacing.
