Four 9-Alkylthiophenanthrenes at 193K (Alkyl = Methyl, Ethyl, Propyl and Butyl)

Four 9-alkylthiophenanthrenes, namely, 9-methylthiophenanthrene, C₁₅H₁₂S, (1), 9-ethylthiophenanthrene, C₁₆H₁₄S, (2), 9-propylthiophenanthrene, C₁₇H₁₆S, (3) and 9-butylthiophenanthrene, C₁₈H₁₈S, (4), have been characterized by X-ray analysis. Compound (1) crystallizes in space group P2₁ with two molecules, and the other three, in a novel display of isostructurality, in space group P2₁/c with one molecule in the asymmetric unit.
