A Functionalized Dimethyl 1,3-Butadiene-2,3-dicarboxylate

The crystal structure of dimethyl syn-(Z)-2-(4-methylphenylmethylene)-3-(1,5,5-trimethylpyrrolidene-2-ylidene)butanedioate, C₂₁H₂₇NO₄, has been determined in order to establish its constitution and configuration, and to characterize the preferred conformation in the solid state. There are notable differences in the conformations of the functional groups; the essential structural features are discussed and compared.
