trans-2,2'-Dichloro-4,4'-dimethylazobenzene

The X-ray crystal structure of the title compound, C₁₄H₁₂Cl₂N₂, reveals a trans geometry of the two Cl atoms in the ortho position with respect to the azo group. In the crystal packing the aromatic rings are stacked in a herring-bone mode along the y direction.
