
In the 1:2 adduct formed between 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene (phloroglucinol) and 2,2'-bipyridyl, 2C10H8N2.C6H6O3, the triol molecules and half of the bipyridyl molecules are linked into chains by means of O-H
N hydrogen bonds, forming a stem, while the other half of the bipyridyl molecules are pendent from this stem, via O-H
N hydrogen bonds.
