The curved polychromator is centred at point P. p is the source-to-crystal distance and q is the crystal-to-polychromatic focus distance. θB is the Bragg angle. The two coordinate systems (x,y) and (X,Y) described in the text are explicitly shown. At the energy-dispersive XAS beamline at the ESRF (ID24), p = 29.7 m and q can be adjusted from 0.5 to 1.5 m. Obviously the figure is not drawn to scale.
