Rowland circle geometry for a bent Johann-type crystal C. The bending radius of the crystal is the diameter of the circle, θ0 is the Bragg angle, and α is the asymmetric cut angle. In the figure, the source S is outside the focusing circle and the focus F is inside. This introduces an energy gradient, which is indicated by an arrow.
