Observed output of a gallium-cooled silicon double-crystal monochromator as a function of electron beam current at CHESS. The deviation of the experimental data from the ideal slope occurred at a power density of 3 W mm−2 (Bilderback et al., 1989BB3) and is an indication that the crystal is thermally distorted.
