Magnified images of a copper #2000 mesh: (a) absorption-contrast image (taken without the phase plate) and (b) phase-contrast image (taken with the phase plate). Both images were recorded with the diffuser. Completely different image contrast appeared in the two images. The magnification of the zooming tube was ×30 and the exposure time was 5 min.
