Fourier-transformed EXAFS spectra for pure S states collected at 20 K. The spectra shown were collected on unidirectionally oriented PSII-membrane particles at the `magic angle' of 55° (thick line) and at 15° (thin line) [Dau et al. (1998BB13); data collection at the XAS beamline of the EMBL outstation, Hamburg, at DESY]. The internuclear distance between the X-ray-absorbing Mn atom and the backscattering atoms is 0.3–0.5 Å larger than the indicated reduced distance because of a linear k-dependence of the phase of the complex EXAFS-backscattering amplitudes.
